Severance Pay Calculator

Estimate a severance payment from your start and end dates and your pay, using the rule that applies to you: so many days, weeks or months of pay for each year of service.

INPUT

The pay your rule is based on, usually your last monthly pay.
Usually 30. Some rules use the working days of a month, such as 26.

Severance = years of service × pay per year. A day is monthly pay / 30; a week is monthly pay × 12 / 52.

    How to estimate severance pay

    1. Enter your dates and pay

Type your first and last day of work and the gross monthly pay the rule is based on.

    2. Set the rule

Enter how much pay each year of service earns, for example 30 days or 1 week, and add a pay ceiling or a maximum number of years if your rule has one. Example fills in a sample rule.

    3. Read the estimate

You see the length of service, the years counted, the pay used and the amount before and after deductions.

Rules differ by country and contract

Some countries give a fixed number of days' pay per year of service, some scale it by age, and many leave it to the contract or a collective agreement. The calculator applies one clear formula, years of service × pay per year, so you can model your rule and check the result against your documents.

How the pay units are converted

A day of pay is the monthly pay / 30, and a week of pay is the monthly pay × 12 / 52. With Count part years, 6 years and 6 months of service count as 6.5 years; without it, only whole years count.

    Frequently asked questions

Does this know my country's law?

No. It doesn't know any country's eligibility rules, minimum service, tax treatment or ceilings, and it doesn't decide whether you are entitled at all. Enter the rule from your contract, a collective agreement or your labour authority.

    Which pay should I enter?

The pay your rule is based on, usually the last gross monthly pay. Some rules add regular extras such as bonuses or meal allowances; add them to the amount if yours does.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and your figures stay on your device.
