How to work out net salary

  1. Enter the gross pay

Type the salary before deductions and choose whether it's per year, per month or per hour.

  2. Add contributions and tax

Enter the employee share of social contributions and either one tax rate or your country's tax bands. Example fills in made-up rates to show how it works.

  3. Read the breakdown

The table shows gross pay, each deduction and net pay per year, month and week, plus your effective and marginal rate.

Why there are no country presets

Tax rules change every year and depend on things a short form can't know: tax class, family, region, church tax, pension choices. Instead of guessing, the calculator uses the rates you enter, so you can copy them from your tax authority or a payslip and see exactly how the result is made.

How tax bands work

With progressive tax, each rate applies only to the part of income inside its band. If the first 12,000 are taxed at 0% and the next band at 20%, earning 13,000 means 20% on 1,000, not on everything. Leave the last band's limit empty for no upper limit.

Frequently asked questions

Which rates should I enter?

Use the current rates from your tax authority, or read them off a recent payslip. Contributions are the employee's share only; the employer's share doesn't come out of your pay.

Is the result exact?

It's an estimate. Real payroll can round each month, apply allowances monthly, cap contributions differently or add items such as church tax or student loans. Use it to compare offers and check payslips, not as tax advice.

Is my salary sent anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing you type leaves your device.
