Voices come from your device
The speech is produced by your browser's built-in speech synthesis, so the list of voices depends on your operating system and browser. Phones and computers often let you install more voices, including better-quality ones, in their language or accessibility settings.
Listening, not downloading
Browsers play synthesized speech straight through your speakers and don't give the audio to web pages, so it can't be saved as an audio file here. To create an MP3, use your operating system's own text-to-speech feature or a dedicated service.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no voice for my language?
Your device has no voice installed for it. Add one in the system settings (language or accessibility), then reload the page, or tick All voices to use another one.
What does “online” next to a voice mean?
Some browsers offer voices that are generated on their maker's servers. When you use one, the text is sent to that service to be spoken. Voices without the mark run on your device.
Why doesn't the word highlight move?
Some voices don't report their progress word by word. The current sentence is always highlighted; the current word only when the voice reports it.
