The comparison appears here once you paste both texts.

How to compare two texts

  1. Paste both versions

Put the original on the left and the edited version on the right, for example a contract draft, an article or a translation.

  2. Choose what counts

Ignore differences in upper and lower case or in punctuation if they don't matter to you.

  3. Review the changes

Removed words are struck through in red, added words underlined in green. The counts show how much was changed.

Word by word, not line by line

Prose is usually edited inside sentences, so a line-by-line comparison would mark whole paragraphs. This tool compares words and punctuation, and shows the result in the layout of the new version with removed words kept in place.

Any language

Words are found with your browser's language-aware text segmentation, so accented letters, Arabic, Devanagari and other scripts are compared correctly. To compare code or data line by line, use the Code Diff Checker.

Frequently asked questions

What does a change count include?

Each place where the texts differ counts once, whether words were added, removed or replaced there. Added and removed words are counted separately.

Are line breaks compared?

No. Spaces and line breaks only separate words, so re-wrapping a paragraph doesn't show up as a change.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Both texts are compared in your browser.
