How to find and replace text

  1. Paste your text

Paste a document, a list or an export, or open a text file.

  2. Type what to find and its replacement

Choose whether case matters, whether only whole words count and whether you're using a regular expression.

  3. Check and copy

Switch between Result and Matches to see what changed, then copy or download the text.

Whole words in any language

With Whole words, “cat” doesn't match inside “category”. Word edges are found for letters of every script, so this also works for accented, Turkish, Arabic or Devanagari text.

Regular expressions

Turn on Regular expression to search with a JavaScript pattern, such as \d+ for numbers, and use $1 or $<name> in the replacement to insert captured groups. ^ and $ match at the start and end of each line. Matching runs in a background worker and stops after 1.5 seconds, so a pattern that backtracks too much can't freeze the page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace only the first match?

Yes. Choose First only. Otherwise every match is replaced.

How do I delete every match?

Leave Replace with empty. Each match is removed and the count shows how many.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Searching and replacing happen in your browser.
