No file at hand?

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server.

How to convert RTF to Word

  1. Open the .rtf file

Drop a file saved by WordPad, TextEdit or an older word processor, or exported by another program.

  2. Check the preview

The preview shows what goes into the Word file. Choose A4 or US Letter pages.

  3. Download the .docx

Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.

Text in any language

RTF files store text in old code pages or as Unicode. Both are read, so accented letters and Turkish, Greek, Cyrillic, Arabic and East Asian text come through as written.

What's left out

Headers and footers, drawing shapes and text boxes, comments, and pictures stored as Windows metafiles (WMF or EMF) aren't carried over; the tool tells you when pictures were skipped. The page size follows the option you choose.

Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Why are my headings plain paragraphs?

Headings are recognized when the RTF file uses heading styles or outline levels, as Word does. Text that is only bold and large stays a formatted paragraph.

Can it open .doc files?

No. A .doc file is a different, binary format. Open it in Word or LibreOffice and save it as .docx.
