Drop a .docx file onto the area above or choose it. A preview of the document appears.

  2. Check the preview

  3. Save as PDF

Press Save as PDF. In the print dialog, choose Save as PDF as the printer and save the file.

What's kept

Fonts and sizes, bold, italic, underline and text colour, alignment, spacing and indents, headings, numbered and bulleted lists, tables with merged cells, borders and shading, pictures, links, page breaks, and the page size and margins. Footnotes are collected at the end. Headers and footers, text wrapped around pictures, text boxes in their exact place, charts, SmartArt and comments are not included.

Why the print dialog?

Your browser lays out text very well in every script, including Arabic and Hindi, and its Save as PDF keeps the text selectable and searchable. Deskbox prepares the pages and the browser writes the PDF, so the document never leaves your device. Fonts that aren't installed on this device are replaced with similar ones.

Frequently asked questions

Is my document uploaded?

No. It's read and laid out in your browser, and the PDF is made by your browser's print dialog on your device.

Will it look exactly like in Word?

Close, but not always identical. Lines and pages can break a little differently, because the browser sets the text instead of Word, and fonts you don't have installed are replaced. Headers, footers and floating text boxes aren't included.

Can I convert .doc files?

Only .docx. Open an older .doc file in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs and save it as .docx first.
