When plain text helps
Pasting from Word into a web form, a code editor or an email often brings hidden formatting along. Plain text has none, so it lands exactly as written. It's also the easiest way to count, search or translate a document's words.
Tables, footnotes and images
Each table row becomes one line with its cells separated by tabs, so it pastes into a spreadsheet as columns. Footnotes and endnotes are added at the end. Images, headers and footers aren't part of the text.
Frequently asked questions
Is my document uploaded?
No. It's read in your browser and never leaves your device.
Can I convert an old .doc file?
Not directly. Open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs and save it as .docx first.
Is the text of footnotes kept?
Yes. Footnotes and endnotes are added at the end of the text, numbered as in the document.
