No file at hand?

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server.

How to convert ODT to Word

  1. Open the .odt file

Drop a document saved by LibreOffice Writer, OpenOffice or another OpenDocument editor.

  2. Check the preview

The preview shows what goes into the Word file. Choose A4 or US Letter pages.

  3. Download the .docx

Open it in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or any other word processor.

What's carried over

Headings keep their level and become Word headings. Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, superscript, font sizes and highlighting are kept; bulleted and numbered lists stay lists, tables keep their merged cells, and pictures, links, footnotes, alignment, indents and page breaks come along.

What isn't

The converter rebuilds the content rather than the page, so columns, headers and footers, frames placed at exact positions, comments and the history of tracked changes aren't carried over; the current text is. Charts and drawings that aren't stored as pictures are left out.

Frequently asked questions

Is my document uploaded?

No. The file is read and the Word document is written in your browser.

Why does the layout look different?

Word and LibreOffice use different default fonts and spacing, and some layout features have no direct equivalent. The text, structure and formatting are converted; fine-tune the look in Word if needed.

Can I convert .ods or .odp files?

No, this tool is for text documents (.odt) only.
