Where the rates come from
The European Central Bank publishes reference rates for about 30 currencies against the euro on working days, usually around 16:00 Central European Time. Rates between two other currencies, such as USD to JPY, are worked out through the euro.
Why your bank's rate is different
Banks, card schemes and exchange offices add a margin and sometimes a fee, and their rates change during the day. Reference rates are for information and comparison; for the exact amount, enter the rate your provider quotes.
Frequently asked questions
How up to date are the rates?
They're the latest ECB reference rates, refreshed on our server at least every hour. On weekends and ECB holidays the last working day's rates are shown; the date is always displayed.
Is my amount sent anywhere?
No. Your browser loads the rate table from Deskbox's server, which gets it from the ECB. The amounts you type are converted on your device and never sent.
Why is my currency missing?
The ECB publishes rates for about 30 currencies only. For any other currency, tick Use my own rate and enter the rate yourself.
