When JPG is the better choice

Photos and screenshots with many colours are often several times smaller as JPG. Some upload forms, older programs and printers also accept only JPG.

Logos and icons often have transparent backgrounds. In a JPG every pixel has a colour, so those areas are filled; choose a colour that matches where the image will be used.

Will the image lose quality?

JPG compression drops a little detail. At a quality of 90 the difference is hard to see; lower values give smaller files.
