How to convert Markdown to HTML

  1. Paste Markdown

Paste a README, notes or a blog post, or open a .md file.

  2. Choose the options

Keep GitHub-flavoured Markdown on for tables and task lists, and decide whether single line breaks become <br>.

  3. Copy the HTML

Copy the fragment into your site, or download a complete HTML page.

Safe to paste into a website

Markdown can contain raw HTML, including scripts. The output is cleaned with DOMPurify before you see it: scripts, event handlers, frames and javascript: links are removed, while headings, lists, tables, code blocks, links and images stay.

Fragment or full page

A fragment is only the converted content, ready for a CMS or a template. A full page adds the doctype, a head and a title taken from the first heading, so the file opens on its own in a browser.

Frequently asked questions

Which Markdown is supported?

CommonMark plus the GitHub extensions: tables, task lists, strikethrough and bare links. Headings, emphasis, lists, quotes, code blocks and images work as everywhere else.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Converting happens in your browser.

Why is some of my HTML missing?

Parts that could run code, such as script tags, onclick attributes, iframes and javascript: links, are removed for safety. Everything else is kept.
