How to convert HTML to Markdown
Paste the HTML
Paste a page's source, an email or content from a CMS, or open an .html file. For a whole page, only the body is converted.
Pick a style
Choose # headings or underlined ones, the list marker, and fenced or indented code blocks.
Copy the Markdown
Copy it into your notes, docs or README, or download a .md file.
Markdown that reads well
Scripts and styles are removed first, so only the content is converted. Bold and italic become ** and *, links keep their address, images keep their alt text, and strikethrough becomes ~~ as on GitHub.
Tables
Simple tables become GitHub-style pipe tables, with column alignment where the HTML sets it. Tables with cells spanning several rows, or tables inside tables, can't be written in Markdown, so they're kept as HTML, which most Markdown tools display correctly.
Frequently asked questions
Is my HTML uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
Why are some parts still HTML?
Markdown has no way to write tables with merged rows or nested tables, so those stay HTML. Turn off Markdown tables to keep every table as HTML.
Can I convert a page from its address?
No, the tool doesn't fetch web pages. Open the page, view its source (Ctrl+U, or Cmd+Option+U on a Mac), copy it and paste it here.
