JSON Validator

Find out instantly whether JSON is valid. If it isn't, you'll see what went wrong and the line and column where the problem starts.

INPUT

0 characters0 lines

RESULT

The result appears here as you type.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server.

How to validate JSON

  1. Paste your JSON

Paste the data or open a .json file. Checking starts as soon as you type.

  2. Read the result

Valid JSON gets a check mark and a summary of its structure. Invalid JSON gets an explanation and the location of the error.

  3. Fix and check again

Correct the text in the input; the result updates straight away.

The most common JSON errors

A comma after the last item, single quotes, comments and keys without quotes are fine in JavaScript but not allowed in JSON. Missing commas between items and unclosed brackets are the other usual suspects.

Valid isn't the same as correct

A validator checks syntax, not meaning. Valid JSON can still lack a field or contain a number where text was expected, so compare it with the API documentation or schema.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data sent to a server?

No. Validation happens in your browser.

Does it accept JSON with comments (JSONC) or JSON5?

No. The tool checks standard JSON as defined in RFC 8259, which is what APIs and most parsers expect. Comments are reported as errors.

Can I fix the formatting here too?

Use JSON Formatter to indent or minify valid JSON. It shows the same error messages.
