How to convert YAML and JSON
Choose the direction
Pick YAML to JSON or JSON to YAML.
Paste or open a file
Paste the content or open a .yaml, .yml or .json file.
Copy the result
Copy the output or download it. Use it as input to convert it back.
Same data, different syntax
YAML and JSON describe the same structures: maps, lists, text, numbers and true/false. YAML is easier to read and write by hand; JSON is stricter and easier for programs, which is why many tools accept both.
What doesn't survive
JSON has no comments, so comments in YAML are lost when converting. Anchors and aliases are expanded into full copies, and several YAML documents in one file become a JSON array.
Frequently asked questions
Why did “no” stay text instead of false?
Under YAML 1.2, only true and false are booleans. Values such as yes, no, on and off stay text, as in current Kubernetes and most modern parsers.
Is my configuration uploaded?
No. Conversion happens in your browser, so secrets in your files stay on your device.
Why is my YAML invalid?
The usual cause is indentation: items at the same level must line up exactly, and tabs aren't allowed. The message shows the line and column.
