How to add a watermark to a PDF

  1. Open the PDF

Drop the file onto the page. The first page appears as a preview.

  2. Design the watermark

Type the text or choose an image, then set the colour, size, angle, opacity and whether it's centred or repeated across the page.

  3. Apply and download

Choose all pages or a range, press Add watermark and download the new file.

Text or logo, centred or tiled

A centred watermark such as DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL marks the status of a document; a tiled pattern covers the whole page and is harder to crop out. For a logo, a PNG with a transparent background gives the cleanest result.

How the watermark is added

Your browser draws the watermark as an image, which is placed on top of each page, so it works in every language and script. Because it's an image, it isn't selectable text, and the page content underneath stays unchanged and searchable.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The watermark is drawn and added in your browser; the file never leaves your device.

Can the watermark be removed?

It becomes part of the page content, not a layer that viewers can switch off, but someone with a PDF editor can still delete it. To discourage copying, also restrict editing with Protect & Unlock PDF.

Can I watermark only some pages?

Yes. Choose Pages and type a range such as 1, 3-5 or 2-. The preview shows which pages get the watermark.
