How to sign a PDF

  1. Open the PDF

Drop the file onto the page. The last page is shown first, because that is where signatures usually go.

  2. Create your signature

Draw it with a mouse, finger or pen, type your name, or upload a photo or scan of your signature.

  3. Place it and download

Press Add to page, drag the signature into place and resize it from its corner. Add it to other pages if needed, then press Sign PDF and download.

A visual signature, not a digital one

Sign PDF adds an image of your signature to the page, like signing a printout. It isn't a certificate-based digital signature: it doesn't prove who signed and doesn't lock the document against later changes. Whether it's accepted depends on the recipient and the law that applies; when a certificate-based or qualified signature is required, use a dedicated signing service.

Tips for a clean signature

Sign large in the drawing area; the signature is scaled down on the page and stays sharp. For an uploaded photo, sign on white paper in good light and keep Make the white background transparent switched on. Typed signatures use a handwriting-style font installed on your device, so they can look different from one computer to another.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a legally binding signature?

That depends on the document, the recipient and the law that applies. This tool adds a visual signature (an image). It isn't a certificate-based digital signature and doesn't identify you cryptographically.

Is my signature or PDF uploaded?

No. The signature is drawn and placed in your browser, and the signed file is created on your device. Nothing is kept after you close the page.

Can I sign several pages?

Yes. Go to another page with the arrows and press Add to page again. You can place the signature as often as you need.
